Principal’s Message-Looking to the Future
Dear Families,
I am looking forward to the exciting changes for next school year as we bring together two communities together. Below is the summary of decisions made by the Transition Team Meetings for the 2019-20 School Year.

Next year the school will host two innovative and unique programs, Orion Alternative and Mandarin Immersion. Parent leaders from both Orion and current John Gill Schools met over the past 2 months to develop an initial plan that brings the two schools together to build one strong community where all children thrive in a joyful environment. Some of the work the transition team has done:
-Both programs will work together as one Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Orion and Mandarin Immersion families are all part of the PTO.
- The team identified parent leaders elected from current school site council to serve their second term in the 2019-20 on the new School Site Council
-The team scheduled for next school year major community building events both on and off school site from August - December 2019.
Teacher Appreciation May 6-10
Parents and students celebrate the John Gill staff

Tue: Bring a card made by the student
Wed: Lunch provided by PTA for all staff
Thu: Bring a special treat
Friday: Bring a flower for the teacher.

Construction Updates for Next Year
Starting in the Fall/Winter of 2019, John Gill Campus will begin phase I of the School Modernization Project. The building that currently house the k-1 classrooms, rooms 15-20 will be demolished in preparation for our new, modern, two story building with more classroom spaces and improved drop off zones. During the construction the campus will house 10 portable classrooms located on the basketball and grassy fields. The RWC Planning and Police Department have been working in partner with the district and site officials to plan for increased traffic and construction next school year. Specific student drop off instructions for families and community along with safe routes to school will be shared over the summer. Stay posted.
