Next Steps for John Gill In the 2019-20 school year, John Gill will be home to two unique programs: The Parent Participation Model, currently on the Orion campus and the Mandarin Immersion Program. These changes provide exciting opportunities for students and the community. To learn more about the Parent Participation model, visit the current Orion website at: https://www.rcsdk8.net/orion.

To support this transition, the San Mateo County Office of Education will facilitate the current parent leadership groups coming together to form one united group.

Construction Another exciting change coming to the John Gill campus next year is the start of construction and modernization. Phase I is to begin in the Fall or Winter of 2019 and will include the demolition of the primary buildings in rooms 15-20. During construction some of the students will be in the remaining buildings or in temporary portable buildings to be located on the basketball courts.

Chinese New Year Begins

Chinese New Year is a Chinese festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. The festival is usually referred to as the Spring Festival in modern China, and is one of several Lunar New Years in Asia. Observances traditionally take place from the evening preceding the first day of the year to the Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year. The first day of Chinese New Year begins on the new moon that appears between 21 January and 20 February.[2] In 2019, the first day of the Lunar New Year will be on Tuesday, 5 February, initiating the Year of the pig.
