Principal’s Message
Thank you for joining us at Open House last Thursday. It was great to see so many of our community members on campus to celebrate the work of our children. I’m very proud of the academic achievement that can be seen in our classrooms.
I hope you got to see our 5th graders perform ’13 Colonies- The Musical’. It was an absolutely phenomenal performance. I was struck by the level of Spanish and English exhibited by our students. I am so proud of them! Thank you Sarah Ames, for creating such an amazing learning venue for our students.

School Site Council Elections
We are looking for 2-3 parents to participate in the School Site Council. If you are interested, please send in a statement of 2-3 sentences to let other parents know why you would like to be elected to the School Site Council board. We will have our election next week; we have our next School Site Council meeting on May 15th, and we want to have our new board members join us!
Teacher Appreciation Week
May 7-11, 2018 We appreciate all the work our teachers do! Thanks to your generous support, Unidos is able to provide our Adelante staff with four luncheons. The last Staff Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday May 10th. BUT, we want to encourage our students to also show their teachers how much they mean to them. We are encouraging students to participate by bringing in special items for their teachers. See flyer that was sent home.
Bike to School Day
This Wednesday is Bike to School Day! You can participate by riding to school on a bike, a scooter, a skateboard, or even skates! We will be polling students about how they got to school that day, and volunteers will be giving stickers to participating children. You don’t have to ride all the way from home; the idea is to increase physical activity and decrease air pollutants. Give it a try- it will be fun!
Unidos Budget Meeting
Join us on Monday May 14th at 5 pm in the library. We will discuss the Unidos Budget for 2018-19. All are welcome!
Book Giveaway
On the 17th, Adelante will have its annual book giveaway. Volunteers have collected books over the course of the year, and these will be free for students to take home. The kids enjoy selecting a book that they get to keep!
Luau Dance
Adelante's family dance is Friday, May 18th! Join us in the MUB from 6-9pm for music featuring our very own DJ El Mago, snacks, drinks and photos. Tickets are $5 per person. Purchase your tickets online, www.mkt.com/unidos, or at the door. To help with the event, please use this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409094dadab23a46-daughters
Accelerated Reader Family Celebration
We are currently compiling the list of students who achieved their Accelerated Reader goals for all three trimesters. These students and their families will be sent an invitation for a family celebration on Thursday, May 24th, at 6:00.
Teachers in grades 3-5 will continue the Accelerated Reader program until the end of the year so that all students can meet their 3rd trimester goal. We will communicate with parents of students who have not yet met their Trimester 3 goal, so that they can support their child in this important, individualized reading goal.
CAASPP Schedule
Our state testing is in progress. Parents of students in grades 3-4, please ensure that your children are at school on time and well rested during their testing dates. Testing takes place first thing in the morning, and is completed by the morning recess. Grades 3 and 4: May 8-15
