Principal’s Message

I want to give a huge thank you to the parent chairpersons of our last two community events. Kudos to Rory Sayres, who coordinated the STEM fair on March 22.   This event included both the science fair and the family science exploration night. There were lots of stimulating STEAM activities for all students to participate in! Thank you Rory, for your outstanding organization and effort in taking on this event!

Many thanks to Meredyth Hite for her astonishing coordination of the Silent Auction. This is a major fundraising and community event for Adelante. Meredyth worked as a full time volunteer for several months to bring this event to fruition. She and her team created a lovely and profitable event for our community. Thank you for your fabulous work and your generosity towards our school!

This month’s theme is ‘Speaking Spanish’. The teachers will be giving an extra-special acknowledgment to the students. We want the kids to internalize how far they’ve come in their use of both everyday Spanish and their academic Spanish.  We had our first acknowledgement event last Thursday- all students who had demonstrated effort in utilizing Spanish were treated to extra recess.

SSC elections

In your Monday folder this week you will have received a letter to indicate interest in serving on Adelante’s School Site Council for the 2018/19 school year. We will need 2 new parents on the board. One will serve as a voting member, and the second will be an alternate.

Being on the School Site Council is a great opportunity to support our school program, and to act as a liaison with other parents.

If you are interested, you will be placed on the voting ballot, which will take place next week. Please send in a statement of 2-3 sentences to let other parents know why you would like to be elected to the School Site Council board.

Superintendent’s Coffee

Dr. Baker has scheduled a coffee meeting at each school site this spring. This is an opportunity for parents to meet with him, and for Dr. Baker to go over some information. There will be a question/answer component also.   We will meet in the library. Adelante’s coffee with the Superintendent will take place on Monday, April 30th, at 8:30. Please join us!

Our Student Athletes

Adelante has some talented athletes! The most recent sport for the district league of 4th and 5th grade students was soccer.  Our girls’ soccer team took the league championship! The boys’ black team took second place in the league, and our yellow team made it to the semi-finals! Many thanks to M. José and Claudia and to our parent coaches, for their wonderful support and instruction for our student athletes.

 Spring Book Fair

We are having a Spanish Book Fair beginning Monday, April 30 through Friday, May 4!  LA Libreria specializes in imported books from fine publishing houses in Latin America and Spain with a catalog including thousands of fiction and non-fiction titles for ages 1-15.  We will be open every day during morning, lunch and afternoon recesses and after school each day (closing at 1:30 on Friday).  We will also be open during Open House on Thursday, May 3rd.  Please sign up to volunteer during the book fair. Many thanks!

Dress Code Clothing Collection

Here is a chance to get dress code clothes for next year AND clear out your child’s closets and drawers! FREE AND EASY!  For the next 2 weeks (today until May 4th), bring any clothes that will be too small for your child next year to the plastic bin outside the office. The clothing collection committee will wash and sort them.  Then at Open House there will be 2 tables set up outside the office. Stop by and get clothes that will fit your child next year. (The clothes will also be available for a few days after Open House.)  Thank you!
