Principal’s Message

This month’s theme is ‘Speaking Spanish’. The teachers will be giving an extra-special acknowledgment to the students. We want the kids to internalize how far they’ve come in their use of both everyday Spanish and their academic Spanish.  We’re very proud of their accomplishments in this area!

Enjoy your spring break with your family! We’ll see you back at Adelante on Monday, 4/16.

Our next newsletter will be published on April 23.

Superintendent’s Coffee

Dr. Baker has scheduled a coffee meeting at each school site this spring. This is an opportunity for parents to meet with him, and for Dr. Baker to go over some information. There will be a question/answer component also.   We will meet in the library.   Adelante’s coffee with the Superintendent will take place on Monday, April 30th, at 8:30. Please join us!

Start Saving Your Outgrown Dress Code Clothing

Many of our children have grown tremendously this year. The clothing purchased at the beginning of the year may be starting to be outgrown. We have an opportunity to help clear your closets before summer, and to be ready for next year!

In a few weeks, (dates TBA) we will have bins available for donations of outgrown dress code items. We will collect until May 3rd. Then at Open House and thereafter, we will have the clothing available, so that you can take free, suitable items for next year.

Puberty Talk   5th Grade Parent Information Night

Come and join us for a Health Connected Curriculum Information evening to find out more about our in-school sexual health programs. We will learn about the California Healthy Youth Act, which guides important content, lessons and activities, the approach of Health Connected and associated curriculum, and ways to engage your student in conversations at home. This is an opportunity to gain more understanding of the rationale behind sexual health and relationships education as well as an opportunity to have your questions answered. The Puberty Talk curriculum will be available to view on the evening. Orion School’s MUR, April 16th 6:00- 7:00

CAASPP Testing

The standardized tests for third through fifth graders, in English language arts and mathematics will be administered in April and May. (The fifth grade also takes a science test.) The timeframes below delineate the dates when each grade level will be involved in testing.

5th grade: the weeks of April 23 and April 30

4th grade: the weeks of May 7 and May 14, and May 22/23

3rd grade: the weeks of May 7 and May 14

In order that the students function optimally, we ask that parents ensure that their children get plenty of sleep, have a good breakfast, and get to school on time. We also request donations of class snacks, to keep their energy levels even during their exams. We are hoping to receive 8 class sets of snacks per class. These can be breakfast bars, crackers, etc. They cannot have peanuts in the ingredients, and should not include doughnuts, muffins or cakes. Please let your homeroom teacher know if you are able to help with this. Thank you!
