What should I do if my child is sick with fever and/or cough or other cold symptoms? (Added 3/10/20)

This is the current recommendation from the California Department of Public Health for illnesses:

Encourage all students, families, and staff to take everyday preventive actions if you are sick:

  • Stay home when sick.
  • Remain at home until the fever has been gone for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
  • Seek immediate medical care if symptoms become more severe, e.g., high fever or difficulty breathing.

The guidelines for what to do in cases of contact with other people that may have coronavirus (COVID-19) are:

  • If someone has had close contact with a person who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) they should implement a 14-day quarantine.
  • If someone has had contact with a person who may have been in proximity to another person that has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), they should continue to monitor their health. If they begin to experience cold, flu or other symptoms, they should stay home from school/work and contact their primary care provider
