School Attendance and Excused Absences

School attendance guidelines are set by the California Education Code.

If your child is sick, please keep them home to avoid spreading the illness and to get better. You may also want to see your medical provider. School absences are excused when a child is sick.

Unless your child is sick, keeping your child home for any reason is a personal choice. However, RCSD does not recommend making attendance decisions based on fear. Fear of contamination without school closure or student illness is not an “excused” reason to be absent, according to California Education Code. We encourage all children to attend school if they are not sick.

All students in RCSD are able to make-up missed work, whether their absence is excused or unexcused.
