RCSD Superintendent Dr. John Baker has announced the appointment of Ms. Tina Mercer as Roosevelt School’s new principal due to current Principal Dr. Rosemary Wood accepting the promotion of Assistant Director of the Department of Special Education. Ms. Mercer is a veteran RCSD educator who taught for many years at Orion Alternative Elementary School.
Roosevelt has received the 2017 SMCRA Celebrate Literacy Award for the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Parent Workshops.
RCSD currently has two open seats; one for the Measure T Citizens Oversight Committee and the other for the Measure U Citizens Oversight Committee.
The facilities became vacant after the Board of Trustees voted to merge and move programs and consolidate schools as part of a community engagement program after a loss of 2,000 students in six years as families move out of the Bay Area due to the high cost of living and three charter schools that operate within the RCSD attendance zone.
The workshops are part of a larger scope of presentations centered around the school district’s new Board policy on creating safe learning environments for all students including transgender, gender non-conforming, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) students.
