Two Veteran RCSD Educators Tapped for Mid-Year Principalships
In a bid to ensure continuity and community connection during periods of transition, Redwood City School District (RCSD) has tapped into its own pool of experienced talent to assume leadership roles at two RCSD schools.
Ms. Fanny Gonzales-Sprouse
At Garfield Community School, Ms. Fanny Gonzales-Sprouse has been appointed as the interim principal, stepping in seamlessly as Principal Lupe Torres-Khalil takes a leave of absence. Ms. Gonzales-Sprouse brings more than three decades of dedication to education within RCSD, having previously served as a beloved teacher at Garfield before assuming the role of assistant principal in 2021. Her long-standing connection to the community and her proven leadership skills make her a natural fit to guide Garfield Community School.
Ms. Erin Kekos
Simultaneously, at North Star Academy, Ms. Erin Kekos has been named as the school’s new principal. Principal Dr. Emily O’Neal is on leave. Ms. Kekos, who recently served as the Director of Human Resources at the District Office, returns to North Star Academy where she previously served as the assistant principal. Born and raised in Redwood City, Ms. Kekos’ journey within RCSD spans her entire career, from being a student within the district to now leading one of its schools and having her young children enrolled in the district. Her deep-rooted local connection, coupled with her extensive experience in education, makes her an ideal leader for North Star Academy’s future.
Both Ms. Gonzales-Sprouse and Ms. Kekos embody the values and dedication aligned with RCSD’s mission of creating a safe and supportive, inspirational and rigorous, joyful and inclusive environment for all learners. Their commitment to the success of students, staff, and the overall well-being of the school communities is evident through their years of service within RCSD as teachers, assistant principals, and now school principals.
Both appointments took effect in early February.
