Three Seats Open on District Measure U Parcel Tax Citizens' Oversight Committee

Redwood City School District (RCSD) is calling upon its community members to step forward and participate on the Measure U Citizens Oversight Committee (COC). With three upcoming vacancies on this committee, RCSD is seeking individuals committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the expenditure of parcel tax proceeds.

The primary role of the Measure U Citizens Oversight Committee is to work with district staff in providing regular reports to the public regarding the allocation of parcel tax revenues. This critical function ensures that these funds are utilized in accordance with the intentions outlined in the Measure U ballot measure. By actively reviewing expenditure reports provided by RCSD, committee members play a vital role in upholding the integrity of the district’s financial management.

The composition of the committee reflects a diverse range of perspectives. Currently, the committee consists of three parents or guardians of students currently enrolled in RCSD schools, three community members without children in the district, and one local business owner. This diversity ensures that the interests of various stakeholders are represented in the oversight process.

RCSD is now accepting applications to fill three vacant seats on the committee. These positions include:

  • One seat designated for parents or guardians of students currently attending district schools, with a three-year term.

  • Two seats are reserved for community members without children in the district, with a three-year term.

While the committee specifically reserves seats for parents and guardians of current students, it’s equally important for community members without children enrolled in the district to participate. Strong schools benefit everyone, contributing to the overall well-being and prosperity of the community. By ensuring that Measure U funds are used effectively, committee members play a crucial role in supporting the educational success of all students in the district, regardless of their parental status.

It’s important to note that applicants must reside within the RCSD attendance zone and cannot have affiliations with the district such as being an employee, contractor, consultant, or vendor. This ensures impartiality and independence in the oversight process.

Individuals interested in serving on the Measure U Citizens Oversight Committee are encouraged to fill out the application form available on the RCSD website.

This is an excellent opportunity for community members to actively engage in the betterment of their local schools and contribute to the continued success of RCSD students.
