RCSD Earns National Spotlight for 2025 Award-Winning Communication

RCSD Earns National Spotlight for 2025 Award-Winning Communication

When schools and families stay connected, students thrive. That’s why strong, clear communication matters—and why Redwood City School District (RCSD) is being recognized on the national stage for its efforts to keep the community informed, engaged, and inspired.

RCSD has earned multiple awards from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), including the prestigious Golden Achievement Award. This honor is given to school districts that follow the “RPIE” framework—Research, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation—when carrying out a communication campaign. In other words, it’s not just about sharing information, but about listening to the community, planning carefully, putting strategies into action, and then measuring whether those efforts made a real difference.

The Golden Achievement Award was presented to RCSD for its Budget Renewal Initiative, which helped families and community members understand and support the district’s fiscal priorities. Judges noted the project stood out for its transparency and inclusivity.

RCSD was also celebrated in NSPRA’s 2025 Publication and Digital Media Excellence Awards, which highlight outstanding communication tools from public schools across the country:

Excellence in Writing:

For the article District Implements New Math Curriculum: Empowering RCSD Learners to be Problem-Solvers, which explained how new approaches help students think critically.

Award of Merit in Writing:

For Empowering Young Readers: RCSD’s Literacy Initiative, showcasing how the district is cultivating early literacy.

Award of Merit in Writing:

For Amplifying Student Voice: RCSD Students Contribute to District’s Strategic Direction, highlighting how students help shape the district’s future.

Excellence in Finance Publication:

For the Spanish language publication ¿Cómo están las finanzas del distrito?, which made complex financial information easy to understand and accessible to all families.

Excellence in Branding/Image Package:

For the RCSD Redesign, a refreshed look and feel that builds pride and connection across the community.

“These awards are a reflection of the trust and partnership we have with our families and community,” said Superintendent Dr. John Baker. “Communication is about more than sharing updates—it’s about making sure every voice is heard, every family has access to information, and every student benefits from that connection.”

These national honors affirm RCSD’s ongoing commitment to open communication, transparency, and ensuring families are partners in their children’s education.

Superintendent's Message: September 2025: Helping Our Students Attend and Achieve

Chronic absenteeism means missing 10% or more of school days, and it adds up quickly—even when the absences are excused. Doctor’s appointments, family celebrations, and vacations all matter, but if they happen during the school day, they still count toward a student being chronically absent and thus lost instructional time.

RCSD Governing Board Sets 2025-26 Budget Priorities

The School Board has approved a $151 million budget for the 2025–26 school year that invests in classroom instruction, student support, and competitive pay. With revenues near $149 million, the district will use savings from prior years, known as the ending fund balance, to maintain programs for 2025–26. As student enrollment keeps declining, RCSD plans to adjust services to match the reality of a smaller student population. Leaders say this careful planning will keep finances strong.
