Redwood City School District (RCSD) is gearing up for the 2025-26 academic year with the appointment of new principals to key leadership roles across its schools.

Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion School

At Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion School, Assistant Principal Patricia Alcocer has been selected as the new principal, effective from the upcoming school year. Ms. Alcocer brings more than two decades of experience in Spanish Language Immersion education, having served in various teaching and administrative capacities within RCSD and other Northern California districts. Her deep-rooted commitment to immersion education and her extensive tenure at Adelante Selby position her well to lead the school forward in its mission of academic excellence and cultural enrichment.

The Gators welcomes Ms. Jennifer Knopf to Garfield Community School as its new principal starting in 2025-26. Ms. Knopf's leadership journey spans more than 20 years in education, marked by her tenure as principal at Henry Ford Elementary School and previous roles within RCSD and the Jefferson Elementary School District. Ms. Knopf’s inclusive leadership style and dedication to fostering a supportive learning environment make her well-suited for Garfield's strong foundation of community engagement.

Henry Ford Elementary School will see Ms. Jennifer Sanchez step into the principalship for the 2025-26 school year. Currently serving as assistant principal at Henry Ford, Ms. Sanchez brings a wealth of educational experience spanning multiple school districts, coupled with a strong commitment to student success and community collaboration. Her leadership promises to continue enhancing Henry Ford's reputation for academic excellence and nurturing the strong Mustang school culture.





These appointments, which take effect July 1, highlight RCSD’s commitment to providing exceptional leadership in every school, ensuring that students receive the highest quality education and support. Superintendent Dr. John Baker expressed confidence in the new principals, emphasizing their qualifications and dedication to advancing RCSD’s mission, vision, and values.

In the 2025-26 school year, RCSD is expanding its TK program, increasing from 14 to 17 classes. This expansion, supported by a significant investment of approximately $700,000, reflects the district’s commitment to early childhood education and meeting the growing demand from families. As of April 2025, the district has already received an overwhelming response, with approximately 400 applications demonstrating the community’s strong interest and support for this California educational initiative.

2025 California Distinguished School Seal

Just 336 schools were selected this year by analyzing data reported through the 2024 California School Dashboard. The prestigious school recognition program honors two categories of exceptional schools: those Closing the Achievement Gap and those demonstrating Exceptional Student Performance. North Star Academy was selected for the latter.

Following the success of the elementary school Illustrative Mathematics program, Imagine IM K-5, committee members had selected Imagine IM 6-8 for a 2024-25 pilot period. The Board of Trustees recently approved official adoption of the curriculum for the upcoming school year.

HVAC System

The first phase of installations will begin this summer at Adelante Selby, Hoover, Roosevelt, and Taft, as these schools require fewer structural and electrical modifications. The remaining campuses will receive upgrades in subsequent phases until every school is equipped with a modern HVAC system.

Expanding its focus on quality of taste and ingredients by creating “fast scratch” menu items that allow staff to make large batches of nutritious food at school sites, CNS staff are working tirelessly to present wholesome, “kid-approved” meals to RCSD’s thousands of students.

February Smiles: Bright Tips to Celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month

As incoming kindergarten families get ready for the new school year, families need to turn in their child's Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment form (KOHA) by May 30. A California requirement, all kindergartners and first graders enrolling in public school for their first year must have an oral health screening completed by a licensed dental professional.
