MIT Graduates Make Waves
Three outgoing McKinley Institute of Technology students made waves as the first-ever recipients of the local "HERO Climate Challenge Scholarship.”
The theme of this year's challenge was “Climate Change: Impact on the Marine Environment and Strategies for Prevention.” The awarding organization, Hannig Environmental Research Organization (HERO), hopes to foster environmental advocacy among youth.
Students Ariana, Luz, and Zeva were supported by Rich Wallace, 8th grade science and computer science, in their final year at McKinley in their endeavors with environmental science.
Students were selected based on their “insight, creativity, and commitment to addressing climate change issues affecting our marine ecosystems,” according to HERO.
McKinley Institute of Technology also received a generous donation that will support the school in organizing environmental education field trips, promoting a deeper understanding of the natural world.
