From Robots to Octopuses: Kennedy Students’ Art Inspires Greener Routines

Creative, crafty, and environmentally conscious. These are just some of the words that can describe two Kennedy Middle School students who recently took part in the annual RethinkWaste Poster Contest.

Open to all students in the RethinkWaste service area, 90 artwork submissions were received between the elementary and middle school categories. This year’s poster theme was “My Green Routine.”

Eighth grade students Luna and Tobias placed second and third, respectively, in the middle school category.

RecyclingRobot-Luna

Luna’s poster, drawn in comic style, spotlights the life of a friendly recycling robot. Titled “Recycling Robot,” the robot sorts, composts, donates, plants, and shares his message–and it’s all to make the world a better place.

RecyclingOctopus-Tobias

Tobias’ poster, “Let’s Make Waves by Sorting Our Waste,” takes us under the sea and gives the viewer a call to action: sort trash for ourselves because sea animals can’t. His message is accompanied by a vibrantly-colored and perplexed octopus left with a human mess at hand.

All winning posters have the opportunity to be highlighted on the RethinkWaste website, newsletter, and other educational materials. Students will also select eco-friendly prizes and attend a special winter event.

Congratulations to all students who submitted an entry!

Families and staff should stay alert for any updates regarding school operations by ensuring their contact information is up to date for robocalls, email, and text alerts and regularly checking the district and school websites. In the event of severe weather, the district will communicate important information about potential schedule changes, including delayed starts, early dismissals, or closures. Being proactive and staying informed will help ensure student and staff safety and minimize disruptions during winter weather conditions.
