Facilities Master Plan Committees Get Underway at Each School Site

As part of Redwood City School District’s (RCSD) commitment to repairing, upgrading, and enhancing learning environments for students as well as the support of its community, Facilities Master Plan Committees are now being formed at each school site. Families, staff, and community members are playing a key role in shaping the future of their local school campuses by participating in these committees.

This effort is part of Phase II of RCSD’s Modernization and Construction Program, which is funded by the Measure S Bond, passed by voters in 2022. Measure S will provide $298 million to upgrade and modernize aging school facilities, ensuring they meet the needs of 21st-century learners. This includes adding new technology, improving safety, and creating spaces that support collaborative and innovative teaching methods. The committees will focus on identifying specific needs and priorities for each individual school, with input from those who know the campus best—its families, staff, and community members.

The need for a new Facilities Master Plan arises from significant changes and developments since the last plan was created in 2013-14. Over the past decade, the district has experienced changes in educational standards and advancements in technology. Additionally, many school facilities have aged and require updates to meet current safety, accessibility, and instructional needs.

RCSD is committed to keeping the community engaged and informed once the committees identify needs and work begins. One key tool will be the Measure S Bond Blogs, which will be updated monthly to provide progress reports and project updates.
