District Certifies First Interim 2024-25 Budget Report as Positive
The Redwood City School District (RCSD) Board of Trustees approved the district’s First Interim Budget Report, which reflects the district’s financial and budgetary status as of October 31, 2024. The report has been certified as “positive,” meaning the district is projected to meet its financial obligations for the current and next two school years. The Board’s approval took place during the December 17 public School Board meeting.
This year’s First Interim Report reflects the district’s ongoing efforts to align its budget with post-pandemic realities. Through the Budget Renewal Initiative Community Engagement Process, RCSD evaluated its spending to return to pre-pandemic levels of operation while ensuring resources are allocated to meet students’ needs effectively. This process contributed to a clearer multi-year financial projection and a sustainable budget moving forward.
“The positive certification is a result of careful planning and our commitment to fiscal responsibility,” said Superintendent Dr. Baker. “It ensures that we can continue to provide a high-quality education for all our students while maintaining the financial health of our district.”
School districts in California must submit two financial reports each year. The first covers finances through October 31, and the second covers through January 31. Both reports must be approved by the School Board within 45 days and are shared with the public. For the 2024-25 school year, RCSD’s total budget is $151.4 Million.
As a community-funded district, RCSD relies on local property taxes to fund its schools rather than state funding based on student attendance. This unique funding model requires careful financial planning and monitoring to ensure stability.
The district will submit its Second Interim Report early next year, which will reflect financial updates through January 31, 2025.
