A Colorful Chapter: Hoover Community School Library Transformed

A Colorful Chapter: Hoover Community School Library Transformed

Crisp, smooth pages that are just waiting to be turned by an excited young reader. Splashes of color on the walls and doors brighten a special place that unlocks the world for a child.

Hoover Community School library recently had a makeover thanks to an exciting partnership between the school and non-profit Access Books Bay Area.

Selected for an Access Books Bay Area School Library Refurbishing Project Grant, dozens of volunteers and the Hoover school community spent time painting colorful murals to refresh the library and processing the new books. The walls inside and outside are now adorned with various scenes of students–and even a little Husky–enjoying a good story.

A total of 1,290 brand-new, diverse, and culturally relevant books in both English and Spanish now line the shelves of Hoover’s library, ready for eager students to check them out. Students will also have access to thousands of gently used books added to classroom libraries which further promotes reading culture in our schools.

Since 2016, Access Books Bay Area has donated more than 85,000 books in an effort to foster a love of reading for all students.
