2025 Dashboard Results Show RCSD Making Steady Progress Across Key Measures

What You Need to Know

  • RCSD improved in English Language Arts, Mathematics, chronic absenteeism, and suspension rates in the 2025 Dashboard results.

  • RCSD earned Yellow in every academic and engagement indicator except Suspension Rate, which improved to Green.

  • These gains show continued recovery and growth after the pandemic, reflecting stronger instruction, better student engagement, and more supportive school environments.

The 2025 California School Dashboard results show encouraging progress for Redwood City School District (RCSD), with improvement across multiple measures of student success. The Dashboard, released annually by the California Department of Education, uses a color-coded system to show both current performance and year-over-year progress.

This year, RCSD saw gains in several areas that reflect the district’s commitment to strong instruction, equitable supports, and a welcoming school environment.

RCSD’s 2025 results include:

  • English Language Arts (ELA): Yellow, improved 11.1 points

  • Mathematics: Yellow, improved 8.6 points

  • English Learner Progress: Yellow, maintained 0.6%

  • Chronic Absenteeism: Yellow, declined 0.8%

  • Suspension Rate: Green, declined 1.4%

  • Local Indicators: Standard Met for Basic Services, Parent and Family Engagement, Local Climate Survey, and Instructional Materials/Facilities

These improvements come at a time when California as a whole is also showing progress. For the first time in the history of the Dashboard, all statewide indicators are rated Yellow or Green, meaning student performance across California is improving rather than declining. The state is seeing higher graduation rates, increases in college and career readiness, continued improvement in chronic absenteeism, and academic gains across subjects.

For RCSD, this progress is especially important as the district continues to rebound from the instructional and attendance disruptions of the pandemic years. The improvements in English Language Arts and Mathematics show that students are regaining academic momentum, while reductions in chronic absenteeism and suspensions point to stronger engagement and safer, more supportive environments on campus.

District initiatives continue to play a major role in these gains, including:

  • Early Literacy and Foundational Skills Work: Strengthening reading and writing in the early grades.

  • Illustrative Math and Evidence-Based Instructional Practices: Ensuring consistent, rigorous math instruction.

  • English Learner Supports: Focused strategies to help multilingual learners grow in both language and academic skills.

  • Chronic Absenteeism Outreach: Family engagement, wellness support, and early intervention to keep students connected.

  • Positive School Climate and Restorative Approaches: Fewer suspensions and more inclusive, supportive school environments.

Together, these coordinated efforts reflect RCSD’s mission to create a safe and supportive, inspirational and rigorous, joyful and inclusive environment for all learners.

Why Does This Matter?

When students are present, supported, and engaged, they learn more and feel more successful. RCSD’s improvements show that students are reconnecting with school after years of disruption, and that classroom practices and student supports are helping them stay on track academically, socially, and emotionally. These gains represent real progress toward ensuring every child feels a sense of belonging and confidence in their learning.

Strategic Organizational Alignment

These results reflect progress across all three RCSD Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals, which are stronger school climate, growth for multilingual learners, and academic improvement for all students.

The Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is the district’s roadmap for connecting programs, funding, and goals for every student to thrive.

Superintendent's Message: September 2025: Helping Our Students Attend and Achieve

Chronic absenteeism means missing 10% or more of school days, and it adds up quickly—even when the absences are excused. Doctor’s appointments, family celebrations, and vacations all matter, but if they happen during the school day, they still count toward a student being chronically absent and thus lost instructional time.
