RCSD Board Approves Purchase of HVAC Equipment for First Phase Implementation

Redwood City School District (RCSD) is taking a significant step toward ensuring more comfortable classrooms for students and staff.

During its March 12, 2025, meeting, the RCSD Board of Trustees approved the purchase of HVAC equipment for Adelante Selby, Hoover, Roosevelt, and Taft schools, a milestone in the district’s long-term plan to repair, upgrade, and modernize school facilities.

“I am glad we are moving forward with this to take proactive action … we are taking steps in making sure every single one of our classrooms ultimately ends up with proper HVAC,” said Trustee David Weekly.

The $1.56 million purchase, funded through Measure S Bond funds, includes 171 new HVAC units. The upgrades will replace outdated heating and ventilation systems, adding much-needed air conditioning and modernized controls to enhance efficiency and comfort.

To keep the project on schedule, RCSD is placing orders in March to accommodate lead times of 8-10 weeks. This ensures that installation begins in Summer 2025, minimizing disruptions to students and staff. Acting now also helps the district avoid an 8-10% price increase from HVAC manufacturer Daikin, set to take effect after March 27, 2025, as well as potential tariff hikes—saving taxpayer dollars in the process.

Implementation Timeline

The first phase of installations will begin this summer at Adelante Selby, Hoover, Roosevelt, and Taft, as these schools require fewer structural and electrical modifications. The remaining campuses will receive upgrades in subsequent phases until every school is equipped with a modern HVAC system.

This investment reflects RCSD’s ongoing commitment to student and staff well-being. The district will continue to provide updates as work progresses, ensuring transparency and keeping the community informed about these essential improvements.
