Planning Begins for Next Phase of Classroom HVAC Upgrades at Henry Ford and Roy Cloud Schools

What You Need to Know

  • RCSD is advancing the next phase of classroom HVAC upgrades at Henry Ford and Roy Cloud

  • This work builds on earlier phases already completed or underway at seven schools

  • Construction is targeted for summer 2027, funded by Measure S

Redwood City School District (RCSD) is continuing its long-term facilities improvement work by advancing the next phase of classroom heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades. This phase focuses on Henry Ford and Roy Cloud schools, with Board approval taking place at the Board’s April 22 public meeting, and construction set for summer 2027.

This work is part of a multi-phase effort guided by the district’s Facilities Master Plan (FMP), which outlines a strategic, districtwide approach to modernizing school environments. The Board of Trustees previously approved Phase 1 and Phase 2 of HVAC upgrades, which are now completed or underway at seven other schools across the district.

Phase 1 included Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion, Hoover, Roosevelt, and Taft schools, which took place summer 2025. Phase 2, set to start construction summer 2026, includes Clifford, Kennedy, and Orion Alternative schools.

The total estimated cost for this phase is $18.75 million, funded through Measure S. This includes construction costs as well as design, permitting, project management, and contingency funding to support successful delivery of the project.

Additional facilities will be part of a future phase. In the meantime, portable air conditioning units are currently in place pending construction of the permanent HVAC systems.

Why Does This Matter?

Modern HVAC systems improve classroom comfort, air quality, and overall learning and working conditions for students and staff. These upgrades help ensure that classrooms remain safe, healthy, and ready for learning throughout the year.

Strategic Organizational Alignment

This project is part of Phase II of the Redwood City School District’s school modernization and construction program, funded by Measure S, the $298 million school improvement bond approved by voters in November 2022. Measure S is a voter-approved bond that provides funding to improve school facilities across the district. This work supports safer, modern, and energy-efficient schools that reflect the community’s ongoing commitment to high-quality education for all students.
