May 2025 Districtwide Modernization and Construction Update
At the Board study session held on April 23, the Redwood City School District’s Board of Trustees provided feedback on the draft Facilities Master Plan (FMP).
The Facilities Master Planning Committee, which has been working over the past several months to shape a long-term vision for school modernization and improvement, presented an overview of the plan’s priorities and framework.
Trustees emphasized the importance of integrating the latest educational research into the design of future learning spaces. This includes considerations for flexible classrooms, outdoor learning environments, and infrastructure that supports collaboration, creativity, and student well-being. The Board also requested a detailed breakdown of project components and costs to ensure transparency and fiscal responsibility.
In response, the Facilities Master Planning Committee is now incorporating this valuable feedback into a refined version of the plan. Site-based planning committees are also being asked to submit any final comments or insights. The final draft of the Facilities Master Plan is expected to be presented to the Board for approval later this spring.
Meanwhile, preparations for major summer construction projects are well underway. HVAC upgrades at Hoover, Roosevelt, Adelante Selby, and Taft are all on schedule to begin in June. Mechanical equipment for these projects has already been ordered and is en route to the district.
To further support classroom comfort across the district, temporary air conditioning units will be installed at all other campuses during the summer months.
These upgrades represent the first wave of high-priority projects funded through Measure S, the district’s bond measure approved by voters to ensure that all students learn in modern, safe, and climate-resilient environments.
