Board Approves Next Steps for 2026 HVAC Upgrades

Board Approves Next Steps for 2026 HVAC Upgrades

Cooler, healthier classrooms are one step closer for students and staff at Clifford, Kennedy Middle, and Orion Alternative schools.

At its September 10 meeting, the Redwood City School District (RCSD) Board of Trustees approved two contracts that move forward permanent HVAC upgrades scheduled for summer 2026.

The first approval was for architectural and design services to plan the upgrades, prepare state approvals, and oversee construction. The cost for this work is $1.39 million, funded by Measure S.

The second approval was for pre-construction services to design the building management controls that will run the new systems and ensure energy-efficient operation. The cost for this work is $67,610, also funded by Measure S.

Together, these approvals set the stage for a $22.25 million project that will replace outdated heating and cooling systems, add air conditioning to classrooms and offices, and improve air quality and energy efficiency.

These upgrades are funded by Measure S, the school bond approved by local voters in 2022. HVAC improvements became a top Board priority at the start of the 2024–25 school year, with the first four campuses—Adelante Selby, Hoover, Roosevelt, and Taft—receiving permanent systems during summer 2025.
