May 2025 Garfield Modernization and Construction Update

Garfield Community School is nearing the finish line on a major lighting upgrade, part of a districtwide effort funded by Measure S to modernize and improve energy efficiency across all campuses.

Throughout the month of April, crews were hard at work replacing and retrofitting outdated lighting fixtures across the Garfield campus. To date, 90% of the fixtures included in the project scope have been upgraded. By working overnight, the team has been able to complete the installation without disrupting the school day—ensuring uninterrupted learning for students and staff.

The new energy-efficient lighting not only improves visibility and safety, but also supports the district’s commitment to sustainability by reducing energy use and long-term utility costs.

A final inspection, known as a “punch walk,” will be conducted in the first half of May to identify any final items needing attention. Once completed, the upgraded system will be officially commissioned and fully operational.

These improvements are part of the first phase of Measure S projects, bringing immediate benefits to Garfield and paving the way for a brighter, more efficient future for all RCSD students.
