Anna Herrera | Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services
As the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for Redwood City School District (RCSD), Anna Herrera plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape and ensuring the success of students and teachers alike.With a career spanning 30 years in public education, Ms. Herrera brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her current role. Her journey began as a founding teacher of the Dual Spanish Immersion program in San Mateo-Foster City School District, where she passionately taught second through fifth grade. During this time, she also took on the responsibilities of coordinating two federal grants, showcasing her commitment to educational innovation and improvement.
Ms. Herrera’s dedication to enhancing educational practices led her to become a SEAL (Sobrato Early Academic Language) coach in Redwood City. In this role, she supported the SEAL pilot program and contributed to the success of the two demonstration sites in RCSD. Her expertise in the program eventually led her to become a trainer as SEAL expanded across the Bay Area.
Progressing through various leadership roles, Ms. Herrera served as Vice-Principal for Selby Lane School (PreK-8) and later took on the position of Principal at Taft Community School. These experiences equipped her with valuable insights into effective school operations management and leadership.
As Assistant Superintendent, Ms. Herrera’s current responsibilities at RCSD encompass a broad spectrum of crucial areas. She oversees curriculum choice, implementation, and oversight, ensuring that students receive a high-quality and comprehensive education. She leads professional development and coaching initiatives for teachers, spanning the entire range from Preschool to 8th grade.
In addition to her role in curriculum and professional development, Ms. Herrera is at the forefront of LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) development, managing state and federal educational grant funding.
Her commitment extends to supporting district Staff Development TOSAs (Teachers on Special Assignment) across various disciplines, including PreK/TK, mathematics, language arts, multilingual learner supports, STEAM, tech integration, and science for grades TK-7. Furthermore, she is instrumental in the development and support of a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) structure for the district, ensuring the successful implementation of this framework.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Herrera enjoys exploring different parts of the world with her family, using travel as an opportunity to learn about the rich history of diverse regions. Her passion for lifelong learning extends into her personal life, reflecting her commitment to staying informed about best practices in education.
