Spanish Immersion

Redwood City School District's (RCSD) Dual Language Immersion Program in Spanish brings together Spanish- and English-speaking students and families for the opportunity of a promising future of being bilingual, biliterate, and academically enriched.

In an ever-expanding global economy, our nation will need its future leaders to be both biliterate and have an understanding of multiple cultures. What if your child could learn how to build relationships across cultures as they speak, listen to others in their native language, and learn better verbal and non-verbal cues while increasing their cognitive abilities? Our Spanish Immersion School not only provides a rigorous and innovative educational curriculum, but also prepares our students to be future 21st century leaders through our Dual Language Immersion Program in Spanish.

The student populations are composed of 50% Spanish-speaking students and 50% English-speaking students. Our immersion school has high expectations for its students. They are expected to show high levels of proficiency in two languages by the time they exit 5th grade. If our students choose, they may go on to continue their Spanish studies in middle school with a Social Studies class taught in Spanish.

We have observed what research supports –participation in our immersion program has made the students confident, respectful, and academically engaged!

RCSD's Dual Language Immersion Program in Spanish is housed at Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion School.
