Bilingual Instruction

The Redwood City School District (RCSD) Bilingual Instruction Program is designed to provide Spanish speaking students an instructional program that facilitates their learning of English and grade level content knowledge. Research shows that students new to the country or new to the English language acquire English more quickly and perform at higher levels academically when given an instructional foundation in their primary language in addition to specific, targeted instruction in the English language.

RCSD follows state required academic standards for all students in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and English Language Development, to ensure all students are college and career ready. In order to monitor student performance, the district has a systematic assessment program aligned with the curriculum standards and the Redwood City School District Board of Trustees has defined quantifiable goals for student progress toward the standards. Progress toward the goals and objectives are evaluated yearly for their effectiveness in improving student learning and student achievement.

The RCSD Bilingual Instruction Program is offered in the primary grades (K-3)  at Garfield, Hoover, and Taft community schools.
