More than a Meal

Every student who is under a certain income, learning English, or in foster care generates 20% more funding as additional services are needed to help students in these categories thrive. In school districts where at least 55% of students are high-need, they receive even more funding. The dollars generated by high-need students help increase or improve services for low-income students, English learners, and foster youth.

Through a partnership with Comcast, the Internet Essentials Program provides internet service for less than $10 a month for qualifying RCSD families. The program also provides the opportunity to purchase a laptop or desktop computer for $149 and free classes to assist in learning internet basics.

Teachers typically apply for grants to make a special project or learning experience possible at their school. Organizations that review teacher applications, such as the ACES grant, will typically ask for or check the school’s or district’s “F&R” (Free and Reduced) rate and use it as a deciding factor on the teacher earning the award.
