Message from the Board President
From Mr. David E. Weekly, Board President
On behalf of the Redwood City School District (RCSD) Board of Trustees, I am delighted to share our excitement in welcoming Dr. Christian J. Rubalcaba to be our next Superintendent.
The Board approached this process with great care and thoughtfulness. Choosing a superintendent is one of the most significant roles a School Board plays, and we understood the importance of getting it right. We took the time to be fair, thorough, and intentional every step of the way. I also want to thank our community for entrusting us with this responsibility and for sharing your voices throughout the process.
We were encouraged by the strong interest in this position and the high caliber of leaders who applied from across the country. As a Board, we carefully reviewed each candidate’s background, leadership experience, and track record of impact in districts similar to ours - we received thick binders full of information about each candidate and their backgrounds from our search firm and did deep diligence into past working relationships and records. Through this comprehensive review, it became clear that Dr. Rubalcaba stood out among a very impressive group of candidates.
Dr. Rubalcaba brings a remarkable breadth of experience to this role. He has served as a bilingual classroom teacher, instructional coach, elementary and middle school principal, and district administrator across multiple Bay Area school systems. In his current role, he oversees student services including special education, wellness supports, and community school programs. His career reflects a deep commitment to ensuring every student has access to the support they need to succeed.
Equally important, Dr. Rubalcaba understands our region and the diverse community we serve. He shares our belief in strengthening what is already working in RCSD while continuing to raise expectations and outcomes for all students. His enthusiasm, energy, openness, and genuine interest in listening to others make him a strong leader for our district.
I am confident that Dr. Rubalcaba will lead with integrity, compassion, and a true commitment to partnership. I look forward to working closely with him and continuing our shared focus on student success.
Thank you to our families, staff, and community members for your engagement, trust, and support throughout this process. I am optimistic about what lies ahead for RCSD and the leadership that will take us forward.
