Joint Message from the Superintendents

From Superintendents Dr. John Baker and Dr. Christian J. Rubalcaba

As Redwood City School District (RCSD) moves through this superintendent transition, our shared priority is to ensure continuity, stability, and steady support for our schools and community.

Dr. Christian J. Rubalcaba will assume the role of Superintendent on July 1, following Dr. John Baker’s retirement at the end of this school year. Over the coming months, we are working side by side to ensure a thoughtful leadership transition. This collaborative period allows us to maintain momentum and keep the important work happening across the district moving forward without disruption.

This transition represents careful planning by the Board and a commitment to both honoring the district’s progress and preparing for what comes next. Dr. Rubalcaba brings a wide range of experience from classrooms, school sites, and district leadership. His background has shaped a deep appreciation for the diverse needs of school communities and a strong belief in collaborative leadership.

Throughout this process,

RCSD remains grounded in its mission to create a safe and supportive, inspirational and rigorous, joyful and inclusive environment for all learners.

That mission continues to guide our decisions and will remain central as the district moves forward.

Strong public schools thrive through partnership. Families, staff, neighbors, local businesses, and civic leaders all play an essential role in supporting students and strengthening our community. We are grateful for the many ways you contribute to the success of each RCSD school.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and support as we move through this transition together.
