About the Superintendent Transition

Leadership transitions are important moments for school communities. They offer a chance to reflect on what has been built, ensure stability for students and staff, and thoughtfully plan for the future.

A superintendent transition is an important milestone for any school district. The Superintendent serves as the district’s chief executive officer, responsible for leading daily operations, supporting schools, and carrying out the vision set by the Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for selecting the Superintendent and guiding a careful transition process that prioritizes students, families, and school communities.

Following a comprehensive search process that included community input, the Board appointed Dr. Christian J. Rubalcaba as the district’s next Superintendent. He will officially begin in this role July 1, 2026, following the retirement of longtime Superintendent Dr. John Baker at the end of the school year.

This transition period allows time for collaboration, learning, and continuity. Dr. Baker and Dr. Rubalcaba are working closely together to ensure that the important work already underway across the district continues smoothly. The focus remains on supporting schools, staff, and students without disruption.

As Dr. Rubalcaba prepares to step into the role; he plans to spend time listening and learning, getting to know RCSD’s schools, families, staff, and community partners. This approach reflects the district’s commitment to strong relationships and thoughtful leadership.

Throughout this transition, the district remains grounded in its mission to create a safe and supportive, inspirational and rigorous, joyful and inclusive environment for all learners. That mission continues to guide every decision and will remain central as the district moves forward.
