The Redwood City School District (RCSD) Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Christian J. Rubalcaba as RCSD’s next Superintendent. Dr. Rubalcaba, a veteran Bay Area educational leader, is scheduled to assume the role in July, following the retirement of longtime Superintendent Dr. John Baker, who will continue to lead RCSD through the end of the school year.

To guide the transition, the Board partnered with Leadership Associates, a nationally recognized executive search firm, to conduct a national search grounded in community engagement and clear leadership criteria. The process included input from district staff and community groups, feedback gathered through a community survey, and a structured, criteria-based evaluation by the Board.
