REGULAR BOARD MEETING

1.         Call to Order

President Márquez called the Regular Session to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

1.1           Roll Call

Present at the Regular Board meeting: President Cecilia Márquez, Vice-President Janet Lawson; Trustees Mike Wells and David Weekly; and Superintendent Baker

 

Others present during the Regular Board meeting: Assistant Superintendent Anna Herrera, Deputy Wendy Kelly, CBO Rick Edson, Will Robertson, Gonzalo Cordova, Itzel Gloria, Whitney Eakin, and others.

 

Absent during the Regular Board Meeting: Trustee Alisa MacAvoy

 

2.         Welcome

President Márquez welcomed those present.

 

3.      Changes to the Agenda

None.

 

4.      Approval of the Agenda

The School Board approved the agenda as submitted (Lawson, Weekly; 4-0).

The School Board approved the Bond Program Consent Items (Wells, Lawson; 4-0), taking the following action:

6.2       Recommendation re: Approval of Construction Management Agreement Amendment #3 for Orion Alternative School (Formerly John Gill School) with RGM Kramer, Inc.

8.         School/Community Reports

 

8.1       Redwood City School District Pedagogy of Confidence

Whitney Eakin, Lead Pedagogy of Confidence Instructional Coach, presented to the School Board information on Redwood City School District’s Equity Consciousness model. This work has transformed into a framework now known as the RCSD Pedagogy of Confidence (POC). Through this framework, lead teachers continue to support other teachers to uphold the district’s vision that every student can attain high levels of intellectual performance.

 

The School Board Trustees thanked Whitney for her presentation on the RCSD POC equity initiative.

 

Trustee Wells, Vice-President Lawson, and President Márquez inquired about the introduction of POC/SEL to afterschool partners. In response, Whitney said she had introduced POC strategies to a few afterschool partners and received favorable feedback.

 

Superintendent Baker asked about the process of increasing the number of POC Lead teachers and whether other teachers who are implementing the POC strategies were moving in the direction of becoming lead teachers. Ms. Eakin provided a response on this matter.

12.1     Report from Board Members and Superintendent

Trustee Wells reported attending the Welcome Back Breakfast and a laptop distribution event at the Fair Oaks Library hosted by Familias Unidas.

 

Trustee Weekly reported attending the Welcome Back Breakfast as well.

 

Vice-President Lawson also attended the Welcome Back Breakfast. Vice-President Lawson inquired about how much was fundraised for schools in Lahaina. In response, CBO Rick Edson said he believed it was $847. Lastly, Vice-President Lawson reported attending a Workforce Housing meeting.

 

President Márquez reported meeting with Dr. Baker. She also reported that she, along with other Latino School Board members in San Mateo County, has formed a coalition. Through their coalition, they have created a speaker series. President Márquez shared the dates for the motivational speaker events.

 

Superintendent Baker attended the Welcome Back Breakfast, a Workforce Housing meeting, and visited a few school sites on the first week of school. Moreover, he reported information on the newly arrived international teachers. Lastly, he updated the school board regarding some of the AC units not functioning and what is being done to address the issue.

President Márquez, along with the other Trustees, received an email from a Redwood City resident.
