STUDY SESSION VIA TELECONFERENCE
- Call to Order
President Janet Lawson called the special study session to order at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom Teleconference Meeting.
- Welcome
President Lawson welcomed those present. The School Board dispensed with the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Changes to the Agenda
There were no changes to the agenda.
- Approval of Agenda
The agenda was approved as submitted, (MacAvoy, Díaz-Slocum; 5-0)
- Oral Communication
None.
- Discussion Items
- Study Session on Distance Learning/In Person Learning
Superintendent Baker in addition to members of the Administrative Cabinet, provided the School Board with a presentation on a plan for return to in person learning. In the plan, there were various topics discussed, such as: health, safety, protocol communication, temperature taking and health waiting area, personal protective equipment inventory, classroom set up, classroom and office set up, air filtration, bond construction, educational services, program model proposal (hybrid/blended and 100% distance learning), recommendations for reopening, public health guidelines, hybrid model overview (at school and at home), state preschool, special education, hubs and pods, pilot programs, human resources, Covid-19 testing for staff, and student services.
Speaker’s Cards: Jackie Moore, RCSD staff, addressed the School Board by thanking Superintendent Baker and members of the Administrative Cabinet for the presentation and proposed plan. Ms. Moore expressed that some staff members have chronic illnesses and are fearful of returning to in person learning. Ms. Moore urged Superintendent Baker and the School Board to continue distance learning.
Indra Hernández, RCSD staff, thanked the School Board for allowing her to express her comments. Ms. Hernández also thanked Superintendent Baker and members of the Administrative Cabinet for all their hard work on the plan to return to school. Ms. Hernández asked Superintendent Baker if preschools can also be added to the plan to return to school.
Michelle Smith, RCSD parent, addressed the School Board and Superintendent Baker by expressing her gratitude towards many questions that had been answered. Ms. Smith asked if resources for socioeconomically disadvantaged communities were also being offered?
Karla Salamea, thanked the School Board and Superintendent Baker for all of their hard work and for answering so many questions from the community.
The School Board thanked Superintendent Baker, members of the Administrative Cabinet, teachers and staff for all of their hard work and support of the in person learning pilot program and the distance learning plan.

The board adjourned the Study Session at 9:14 p.m. (Díaz-Slocum, McBride; 5-0).
