    What is "The Write Tools"?

    This unique instructional approach taught by Henry Ford teachers offers an organize, step-by-step approach towards successful writing skills for our students. It presents strategies deliberately addressing different levels of writing proficiency rather than grade levels.

     
    Writing instruction has a direct connection towards improved reading comprehension. Teaching our students to write teaches them to think. When students discover that the way they’ve learned to write is sometimes the way their textbook is organized, the science text or the history text doesn’t seem quite so formidable.

    RCSD Writing Expectations
     
     

    Kindergarten: Write a minimum of 2-3 sentences on a topic.

    1st Grade: Write a 5-8 sentence paragraph.

    2nd Grade: Write an 8-13 sentence paragraph with a position statement.

    3rd Grade: Write a minimum 4 paragraph essay.

    4th Grade: Write a 5 paragraph essay. Include an introductory paragraph (thesis and plan) and 3 body paragraphs using transition topic sentences and a conclusion.

    5th Grade: Write a 5+ paragraph essay. Include an introductory paragraph (thesis and plan) and 3 body paragraphs using transition topic sentences and a conclusion.
