• Photo of Julia Federico-Youngs Hello!  My name is Julia Federico-Youngs, and I am excited to be joining the team at Kennedy Middle School this year!  I am the director of the music program at Kennedy Middle School which includes the Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Choir.  My goal as a teacher is to create lifelong musicians that are independent musical decision makers!  I hope to achieve this by providing fun and educational literature, a clean and exciting environment, and correct pedagogical instruction in which students can set and attain their own musical goals.

Before working at Kennedy Middle School, I lived and worked in Fort Worth, Texas as a middle school band director for three years.  While there I was in charge of creating and implementing all of the curriculum for the beginning instrumental students.  My bands also received Sweepstakes at our state U.I.L. Concert and Sight-Reading Contests two of the three years I taught there.  Prior to that, I taught with the School District of Philadelphia as a middle school music teacher where I was nominated for a Music Educator Grammy Award.  I also have experience running several Honors Summer Music Camps at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania where I am an alumnus.

I have my undergraduate degree in Music Education, Clarinet Concentration from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.  After teaching for a year in Philadelphia, I returned to Mansfield University as a Graduate Assistant of Bands to attain a Master of Arts in Instrumental Conducting.  While working towards my masters, I also had the opportunity to attend The Juilliard School for conducting classes and workshops.

Although my passion is teaching, I am an avid performer.  I am a clarinetist, but have experience marching in a drum and bugle corps, performing in brass bands, orchestras, drum lines, jazz bands, choirs, and many community groups.  Currently I play with the Castro Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Pleasanton Community Concert Band because I value the idea of music being something you can pursue and enjoy your entire life.  (Which I do.)

Again, I am thrilled to be apart of the team here at Kennedy, and I am excited to see everything these young musicians will accomplish this year!
