• Physical Education Grading Policy

    6th-8th Grade

    50%- Attitude/Effort

Every trimester each student starts with a total of 100 points or 100% equaling an A grade. Students lose points a time for poor effort or attitude. If a student can’t participate a note from a parent or guardian is required.

    Examples:

    1. lack of participation during stretching and laps.
    2. Lack of participation during the activity of the day.
    3. Being late or missing class due to behavior

    30% Performance

This grade is based on students’ ability to meet the states “standards” for physical fitness. The grading rubric is based on the expected results for Presidential score according to the state. We will run the mile once every two weeks. The students average mile time for that trimester will be the student’s grade. Other exercises will be used for grading depending on the weather.

    20% Dress (begins September 4th)

Students are expected to wear their (name on the back in sharpie) P.E. shirts daily. If a student does not wear their shirt they will receive a dress cut.

Why is it important to exercise?

    • Exercise helps kids achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.
    • Regular physical activity helps build and maintain strong, healthy muscles, bones and joints.
    • Exercise aids in the development of important interpersonal skills—this is especially true for participation in team sports.
    • Exercise improves the quantity and quality of sleep.
    • Research shows that exercise promotes improved school attendance and enhances academic performance.
    • Kids who exercise have greater self-esteem and better self-images.
    • Participating in regular physical activity prevents or delays the development of many chronic diseases (e.g., heart disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension) and promotes health.
    • Children who are active report fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression and a better overall mood.
    • Exercise helps improve motor coordination and enhances the development of various motor performance skills.
