Hi, my name is Derek Lee. I teach 7th and 8th grade RSP Math, Study Skills, and Expository Reading and Writing for 6th grade. You can find me in room 318.
Some background about me:
I grew up in the East Bay, in Lafayette.
My favorite subject in school was English, I loved creative writing and making my own comics and characters.
Some hobbies of mine are playing the guitar, basketball, and hiking with my dog Cali.
I spent my senior year of high school in Costa Rica. I'm currently attempting to refresh my Spanish with my students :)
I graduated from San Jose State University in 2016.
In my classroom:
We value respect, responsibility, and honesty.
As long as students come to class and show full effort in the classroom, they should get passing grades and will learn to the best of their abilities.
In Math, I give homework nightly except on Fridays and weekends.
In Expository Reading and Writing we improve our literacy skills through various stations including silent reading and reading logs, creative writing prompts, vocabulary practice, and annotating news articles. They are currently practicing how to identify main ideas in texts, the difference between paraphrasing and summarizing, and using context clues to define words.
