Jen ParsonsMy teaching career started seven years ago when I moved to Japan with my husband to teach English. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher, but teaching in Japan ignited this passion. When we returned home, I pursed my teaching credential from Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont. While pursuing my credential, I continued to substitute and volunteer in classrooms in Redwood City and Woodside. I also worked at Notre Dame's lab school in San Bruno before returning to Redwood City to teach at Mount Carmel and help start their Transitional Kindergarten program.
I feel energized when I work with kids. I love building students' confidence in themselves and helping to instill a life long love for learning. I have a very humanistic philosophy to teaching. I believe in multiple intelligences and teach to the whole child. I believe children naturally love to learn and I hope to foster that love of learning through my own enthusiasm and purposeful lesson planning. Japan taught me a lot about self-discipline and perseverance so that is something I also try to instill in my students.
I feel very grateful to be at Orion this year sharing the position with two wonderful and passionate teachers and look forward to having more time to plan and collaborate with the other Orion teachers and parents.
