    COURSE OVERVIEW AND POLICIES

    7TH GRADE Math:

    Dear parents and guardians:

I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year.

                                                                            Course Description

Our textbook, Core Connections, Course 2, is the second of a three-year sequence of courses designed to prepare students for a rigorous college preparatory algebra course. It uses a problem-based approach with concrete models. The course helps students develop multiple strategies to solve problems and to recognize the connections between concepts. The lessons in the course meet all of the content standards and embed the “Mathematical Practices” of the Common Core State Standards.

    Required Texts & Materials

Please make sure your student has the following materials with them each day:

    ·       3 sharpened pencils and one big eraser

    ·       Red pen or pencil for grading

    Organization

We encourage you to help your child keep track of their supplies and notebooks.  Please go through their backpack with them once a week to locate important forms, missing homework, and to keep the papers correctly placed in their notebooks.  Students should have a folder at home where they can keep corrected quizzes and tests that they may need to refer back to study during the year.

    Class Expectations

Please bring your notebook, Tool Kit, textbook and writing materials everyday.  Students will be assigned homework most days, Monday-Friday.  On the following school day, the homework will be corrected in class.  Homework should average 20 minutes a night.  If students are absent, they may have one day to make-up work for each day that they missed.  The homework assignments will be listed on my webpage http://www.rcsd.k12.ca.us/Page/4921.  All homework and classwork is to be done in the notebook, which will be collected and graded at the end of the chapter.  At the end of every chapter there will be a quiz and a group project.  After the quiz and notebook have been graded and returned the test date will be about one week later.

It is my hope we can work together to help your child succeed.  The best way to contact me is by email at hkerri@rcsdk8.net.
