The committee has formed because RCSD went through a process last fall to move and merge programs and to consolidate schools in order for the district to balance its budget. This process, Planning for our Future, was undertaken because an independent financial consultant concluded that with declining enrollment, RCSD could not sustain 16 schools with 7,500 students.
The Sequoia Awards recognize young men and women for their outstanding work volunteering throughout the Redwood City community. Each student receives a scholarship worth between $5,000 to $25,000.
RCSD featured it's STEAM program at John Gill Elementary School.

They visited classrooms in the STEAM and Mandarin Immersion programs on the John Gill campus as well as Kennedy Middle School and learned about the district's focus on equity in access to education, the sophisticated technology integration across content areas, enrichment opportunities, expertise in English language learning, and the innovative creation opportunities to make learning visible.
