Board Approved Calendar for 2012-13 At the May 30 school board meeting, the board ratified the calendar proposed by the Redwood City Teachers Association for the 2012-13 school year. The calendar assumes 178* days of instruction for students. Classes will begin August 27th and the last day of school will be June 14th, 2013. Winter and spring breaks align closely with the schools in the Sequoia Union High School District.
How the calendar is developed: As required by law, the school board sets the school start date. Current board policy prescribes an annual start date of the fourth Monday in August, which in 2012, falls on August 27th. School breaks and teacher work days are negotiated with the two unions representing district employees, the Redwood City Teachers Association (RCTA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA), and the board then votes on whether or not to approve the calendar that results from these negotiations.
